Tadic on extradition of Ganic Print

Image Serbian President Boris Tadic said in Belgrade that Serbia does not oppose for member of the War Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ejup Ganic, who is charged by judicial authorities of Serbia with war crimes against the Yugoslav People’s Army members in Sarajevo in 1992, to be handed over to judicial authorities of B-H. The central issue for Belgrade is not for Ganic to be extradited to Serbia, but for the proceedings to take place, Tadic said at a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the Serbian Renewal Movement. Serbia charged Ganic with war crimes in Dobrovoljacka streets in Sarajevo in May 1992, when 42 members of the Yugoslav People’s Army were killed, 73 wounded and 215 captured. On March 1, Ganic was arrested in London at the request of Serbian authorities, to be later released on bail, while his extradition from Britain is sought for by Serbia and B-H.

 
Tadic and Solyom confirmed exceptional level of cooperation between two countries Print

Image Serbian President Boris Tadic and President of Hungary Laszlo Solyom, confirmed in Novi Sad, a very high level of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, stressing the importance of economic cooperation in the global economic crisis. After meeting with Solyom, who is on a several-day private visit to Vojvodina, where he celebrates with the Hungarian national community the anniversary of the 1848 Revolution, Tadic said that the two countries successfully resist blows of economic crisis. We talked about building the infrastructure between Budapest and Belgrade, Tadic said. The two presidents agreed that on St Sava’s Day next year Tadic will visit the Serbian national community in Hungary. We also talked about the education of children that should be supported by all the measures of the state policy as at issue is protection of cultural identity and the identity of each ethnic community, said Tadic. Solyom said that the Hungarian community in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina, contributes to Serbia’s closer approach to the EU and reiterated that Budapest will do everything in its power so that the acceptance of Serbia's candidacy for membership in the Union is placed as soon as possible on the agenda in Brussels.

 
Tadic: Serbia insists on respect for the principles of the UN Print

Image Serbian President Boris Tadic stated that Serbia will participate in the regional forum in Brdo kod Kranja, if representatives of Albanians from Kosovo and Metohija participate at this meeting in accordance with the principles of the UN and Resolution 1244. After talks with Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom in Novi Sad, Tadic said that the integrity of Serbia must not be brought into question at international forums either implicitly or explicitly. Serbia will not participate in any international forum where the UN principles are not respected, Tadic reiterated. According to him, Serbia wants presence of the Kosovo Albanians at international forums, but that participation must be organized in a way that does not question the territorial integrity of Serbia.

 
Three players from Serbia in the third round of Indian Wells Print

Image Three Serbian tennis player reached the third round at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. Novak Djokovic defeated American Mardy Fish with 2-1 (6-1, 0-6, 6-2), and Jelena Jankovic defeated Petra Martic of Croatia with 2-0 (6-3, 7-6 ( 7:2)). Viktor Troicki also made it to the third round, after Pablo Cuevas Uruguay retired. Ana Ivanovic failed to reach the third round, having lost to Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia with 0:2. Dusan Vemic reached the second round in doubles competition after he and Croat Ivo Karlovic defeated Polish Mariusz Fyrstenberg - Marcin Matkowski with 2-0 (7:6 (8:6), 7:6 (7:3)). In the second round, Vemic and Karlovic will play against Spaniards David Ferrer and Albert Montanes. Total prize money of the tournament in Indian Wells is 4.5 million dollars.

 
Milan Stankovic representing Serbia in Eurovision Song Contest Print

Image With the song entitled "This is the Balkans", Milan Stankovic will represent Serbia in the 55th Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Norway in May, it was decided last night by the audience SMS voting in a direct program. Stankovic will perform the winning song, composed by Goran Bregovic with lyrics written by Marina Tucakovic, in the "Eurovision" first semi-final on May 25, when in the "Telenor Arena” in Bærum, Oslo, perform will also representatives of Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Bosnia, Moldova, Latvia, Estonia, Greece, Iceland, Malta, Portugal, Macedonia, Belarus, Belgium, Poland and Albania. In the show broadcasted by RTS, the three finalists, whom Bregovic along with the RTS team selected at the audition, presented Bregovic’s upbeat songs, with the inevitable sound of brass, for which this composer is well-known throughout the world. Emina Jahovic sang composition "You Are Spoiling the Game“, while Oliver Katic sang the song entitled „Hello, President“.

 
Tadic: Balkans unavoidable in the European peace project Print

Image While receiving the "Steiger" award for promotion of European unity in the German town of Bochum, Serbian President Boris Tadic said that inclusion of the West Balkan countries in the EU must be in the interest of all Europeans. Tadic said that this award is recognition to all the citizens of Serbia for commitment to European values. "Serbia is fully committed to peace and stability in the region, and throughout Europe. Our view is that all the problems in the former Yugoslavia and regional challenges, including those in our province of Kosovo and Metohija, must be resolved in a peaceful and democratic manner", said Tadic. He stated that, regardless of when a positive response to the candidacy for EU membership will be received, Serbia will intensify social and economic reforms, establishment of a society based on solidarity, as well as the insistence on respect for human and minority rights. While paying respects to late Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, Tadic emphasized that he was killed seven years ago precisely because he believed that his country has no other way except the one that leads towards the EU. The "Steiger" was created to support Ruhr, a well-known mining area in Germany. So far this award was received to Israeli President Shimon Peres, a former Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mohammed el-El Baradei, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, former head of the German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Farah Diba Pahlavi, the wife of the late Shah Reza Pahlavi and other celebrities.

 
Tadic and Kohler on European integration Print

Image Serbian President Boris Tadic talked today with German President Horst Kohler, to whom he presented strong conviction that sustainable peace, stability and economic development of the West Balkans are possible only through integration of the region into the EU. The EU is one of the biggest peace project in the international politics and only through the EU integration of the West Balkan countries it is possible to achieve both sustainable peace and economic development, Tadic emphasized in his statement to the Tanjug news agency following his meeting with Kohler.

 
Jeremic: Portugal supports European future of Serbia Print

Image Portugal supports European future of Serbia and our policy in regard to Kosovo and Metohija, stated Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic  after talks with his counterpart Luis Amado in Lisbon. This is very important for us, as we cannot give up on Kosovo or our full-fledged EU membership, emphasized Jeremic. Belgrade will continue with close cooperation with all partners in Europe so that the situation in the Balkans becomes stabilized, a compromise-based solution for the future Kosovo status reached and European integration of Serbia accelerated, Jeremic said.

 
Dacic: We must not scare Europe Print

Image Ministers of Internal Affairs of Serbia and Macedonia, Ivica Dacic and Gordana Jankulovska respectively, agreed in Skopje yesterday that it is in the interest of both countries to jointly solve the problem with false asylum seekers. Dacic said that the common interest is that Europe does not become afraid of the West Balkans, because it could jeopardize the European future of the region.

 
Hungarian support for Serbia's EU integration Print

Image After meeting with Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom, who is on a three-day visit to Serbia, President of the Vojvodina Assembly Sandor Egeresi reiterated that the official Budapest supports Serbia on its path towards the European Union. "Solyom has once again clearly emphasized that Hungary wants Serbia to join the EU as soon as possible and that Vojvodina has a special role in that process," Egeresi told a press conference that the Hungarian head of state did not attend. "We have highlighted the importance of making 'Danube Development Strategy', which will culmination in the formation of the Danube macro region, probably in the first half of next year, during the Hungarian EU presidency," said the President of the Vojvodina Assembly.
