Tadic requested change of Kumanovo Accord Print

November 28, 2008

ImageSerbian President Boris Tadic assessed that the time has come for change of the 1999 Kumanovo Accord that ended the war in Kosmet and based on which Serbian Army and Police units departed from the territory of the province. Tadic emphasized that Serbia showed that it is a stability factory in the region and that there is not reason for the Kumanovo document not to be changed. He pointed that according to provisions of the Accord, there is still a flight ban zone for which there is objectively not security reason. Tadic most resolutely opposed the forming of the Kosovo security forces and underlined that such a solution, which first appeared in the Ahtisaari plan, is absolutely unacceptable for Serbia. He pointed that members of those forces are recruited from the ranks of terrorist groups, which is also the case with all security structures in Kosmet. Pointing that Serbia is not a factor of destabilization and that Serbian soldiers did not fire at anyone, Tadic emphasized that it is actually Albanians that fired at the Serbian Army members and Serbian citizens in the province. He added that it was not Belgrade authorities but rather international institutions that defined the so-called Albanian National Army as a terrorist organization.
