Serbs and Albanians gathered in Brdjani – the situation is tense |

August 26, 2009  Many Serbs gathered in Brdjani this morning, northern Kosovska Mitrovica, on the location where Albanians had begun cleaning the field for the renovation of several Albanian houses. Serbs, who, based on a previous agreement, are working on the reconstruction of five houses, are opposing the reconstruction of works on that location, as no agreement has been reached with them on the reconstruction of facilities owned by Albanians, as agreed with EULEX. The situation is tense, as some 50 Albanians have gathered, too. Strong EULEX forces are present in Brdjani, to prevent possible conflicts. Two Serbs and five Albanians were lightly injured yesterday in an incident that happened in Brdjani. The situation calmed down after the EULEX police intervened, using teargas.
