Power cuts in northern Kosmet since last night Print

20 October 2009.

ImageThe northern part of Kosmet, with majority Serb population, has been without electricity since last night, and the Kosmet Power Corporation has still not issued an official report. Head of the Kosovska Mitrovica district Radenko Nedeljkovic has stated that at issue is probably the intention of the Pristina authorities to start charging for the electric supply in that area. We do not reject paying for the power supply, but not to the Kosmet Power Corporation, but only to the Serbian Power Company, underlined Nedeljkovic. He said that last night workers of the Kosmet Power Corporation tried to take over the main transformer facility in the village of Valac, near Kosovska Mitrovica. According to Nedeljkovic, the Serbs will not allow it to happen, and if the power cuts should continue, the local authorities will respond by counter measures, i.e. stop the water supply for the southern part of Mitrovica, exclusively populated by the Albanians.
