October 22, 2009

Former President of the Republic of Srpska Biljana Plavsic, who is in a Swedish prison, serving a sentence for war crimes, will be released on Tuesday, October 27, the Swedish Ministry of Justice communicated. Based on the decision of President of the Hague Tribunal Patrick Robinson of September 15, Biljana Plavsic (79) is granted premature release because she served two thirds of the sentence of 11 years, to which she was sentenced for crimes against non-Serbs during the war in B-H. In October 2002, Plavsic pleaded guilty for the persecution of Muslims and Croats in Bosnia in 1992. The Tribunal sentenced her to 11 years in prison in February 2003.
