Bentler: Reduction of troops will not compromise security in Kosovo Print

November 9, 2009

KFOR Commander German general Markus Bentler said that the reduction of international military forces in Kosovo will not compromise security. There will be no automatic actions  of reduction, but it will be done gradually so that security be ensured at all times, Bentler told a press conference in Caglavica. He said that the decision of the political leadership of NATO to reduce troops in Kosovo was made on the basis of the positive developments in the field. The German general did not, however, rule out the security risks, citing the possible disagreements between different ethnic groups, tensions in northern Kosovo, as well as possible developments after the decision of the International Court of Justice on Kosovo's status. But despite all this, we have a good security situation and I am very optimistic, stressed Bentler.
