Frattini: It is time for the EU to award Serbia |

November 13, 2009  Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said it was time for the EU to reward Serbia by liberalizing the visa regime and deblocking the Interim Agreement and the process of ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement. On the eve of today’s Italian-Serbian summit in Rome he said that, by applying of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, Belgrade has shown its resolution to continue its intensive course to the EU and it is time for the EU to adequately reward Serbia. He stressed Rome would support Serbia’s application for EU candidature. Asked if recognition of Kosovo will be set as a condition, he said that EU membership was based on Copehagen criteria and that he saw not reason for another approach to be applied to Serbia.
