Barrault: Serbia one step from Europe Print

19 November 2009.

European Commission Vice President Jacques Barrault has assessed that Serbia has met all the conditions for the visa liberalization, so its citizens should be able to travel through the Schengen area freely since December 19. In an interview to the Belgrade VECERNJE NOVOSTi daily Barrault has congratulated the citizens of Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia for the visa liberalization and praised the progress achieved in the reforms. He said that on November 30 he would suggest the lifting of the visa regime to EU ministers of interior and judiciary, while assessing that there should be no problems in that regard. Everything has been well prepared and the experts of the EU member-states were able to find for themselves that the set conditions are met, explained Barrault. He also greeted the results that have been attained in the battle against corruption and the organized crime in Serbia.
