ICJ President: The court’s conclusion on Kosovo will be neutral Print
19.11.2009.

The president of the ICJ in The Hague, Hisashi Ovada, said the opinion of counsel of that court on legality of the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo will not be in the form of a uniform answer. Via a video link Moscow-Hague, organized by RIA news agency, Ovada specified the court’s conclusion will be on 30 pages and an analysis of that document will be required. The agency reminds provisional Kosovo Albanian institutions in Pristina unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo from Serbia on 17 February 2008 and the UN General Assembly, at Belgrade’s initiative, addressed the ICJ for a consultative conclusion on if Pristina’s move is in line with the international law. An open discussion in the ICJ on that will be held from 1 to 11 December and judges are expected to give their opinions in a few months.
