British attorney Richard Harvey will be the legal counselor of former Republic of Srpska President Radovan Karadzic, it has been decided in the Hague Tribunal. It has been communicated that the Court Secretariat enabled Karadzic to have talks with lawyers from the list of defending ones, and he did not choose anyone. Harvey volunteered to represent Karadzic in his trial, because he previously worked at the war crime cases in Rwanda, and in The Hague he represented Albanians charged with war crimes in Kosmet. The Tribunal Secretariat has decided there is no conflict of interest that would prevent Harvey from being Karadzic’ counselor. The trial to Radovan Karadzic started on October 27 with prosecutions opening word, but was interrupted on November 5, since the defendant has refused to take part in the process until he is ready for the defense. The Trial Chamber had previously decided to appoint an official representative for Karadzic, and the date set for the continuation of the trial is March 1, 2010.
