European Parliament: Serbia dedicated to progress towards EU Print

24 November 2009.

The unilateral implementation of the Interim Trade Agreement in Serbia shows that the state is determined to make progress on the course to the EU, reads the resolution of the European Parliament Foreign Policy Board, passed to the MPs for discussion. As underlined, the European Council should ratify the Interim Trade Agreement with Serbia without delay. The resolution points that Serbia and other future candidates should be implementing the reforms in key areas, such as the rule of the law, freedom of speech, stance towards the ethnic minorities and battle against corruption and organized crime. The resolution on the strategy of European Commission expansion to the West Balkan countries will be debated at tomorrow’s plenary session, while the voting will take place on November 26. The Parliament has also confirmed its pledging of the policy of expansion, as one of the most successful measures of the EU, concludes the communiqué from the European Parliament.
